Neck Pain
Neck pain (Whiplash, Muscle Spasm, Ligament Sprain, Tendinitis)
Neck pain can result from injuries to tendons or ligaments and often gets labeled whiplash, muscle spasm, ligament sprain, or tendinitis. Patients suffering from these conditions are often treated with muscle relaxers, oral steroids, physical therapy, or massage sometimes with little benefit. Some patients resort to injected steroids or trigger point injections for the muscle spasms. While some of these therapies can be effective, if the ligament or tendons are not addressed, the patient will fail to ever find long-term relief. Unfortunately, MRI or Xray imaging of the neck and back rarely shows a sprained ligament or strained tendon so patients are simply told by most mainstream orthopedic doctors that they must live with their pain. It takes a skilled osteopathic exam to manually diagnose the pathology behind muscle spasms and whiplash in the neck. Once the true cause of the injury can be assessed, then patients can be injected, if needed, with
bioactive plasma at the site of the tendon or ligament injury and find resolution potentially from whiplash or muscle spasms that could otherwise last a lifetime. The osteopathic physicians from Aspen Integrative Medicine have a mastery at understanding these kinds of whiplash and muscle spasms in the neck due to ligament and tendon injuries.
Osteopathic manual therapy and precisely placed injectional treatments of
prolotherapy, prolozone, or
PRP (as bioactive plasma) can significantly reduce the pain and discomfort associated with the conditions of whiplash, muscle spasm, ligament sprain, or tendinitis.
Neck injury or degeneration (Disc herniation, Disc degeneration, Facet arthropathy, Arthritis, Bone spur)
Neck injuries resulting in disc herniation, disc degeneration, facet arthropathy, arthritis or bone spur can often be a result of tendon and ligament injuries that fail to gain adequately treated. Mainstream medicine provides a variety of drug therapies and injections, particularly cortisone injections, and even orthopedic surgery which may involve disc replacements or fusions. Before resorting to cortisone injections or surgery, the osteopathic physicians at Aspen Integrative Medicine generally recommend conservative manual therapy and injections of
prolotherapy, prolozone, or
PRP (as bioactive plasma) to heal tendons and ligaments, calm the inflammation of disc herniations, reduce bone spurs, and nourish the arthritic facets. Find out if osteopathic diagnosis and manual therapy as well as skilled, nonsteroidal injection therapy (of prolotherapy, ozone, or bioactive plasma) can be a solution for your neck injury or degeneration by contacting Aspen Integrative Medicine and getting a focused osteopathic exam.
Neck misalignment (Subluxation, Somatic Dysfunction)
Neck misalignment conditions are also known as “subluxations” by most chiropractors or “somatic dysfunctions” by osteopathic doctors. Aligning the spine and improving the motion of each vertebra are key for long-term musculo-skeletal health and nervous system balance. While some chiropractors are effective at adjusting the spine and associated structures, some patients may also benefit from the more subtle
osteopathic manual treatment (OMT) offered by an osteopathic physician.
