Coffee Enemas for Liver Congestion
Coffee enemas are sometimes used as a natural therapy to support liver detoxing and congestion. The idea is that gently introducing brewed coffee into the lower bowel may stimulate bile flow, encourage detoxification pathways, and help the liver process backed-up metabolites more efficiently. Many people report feeling lighter, clearer, and less sluggish afterward.
Frequency
1–2 times per day to help flush the liver.
It’s best to do the enema after your morning bowel movement. If you haven’t gone yet, you can use the enema to stimulate a movement, then repeat once you’ve eliminated.
If needed, you can repeat it twice a day—just avoid doing enemas after 4 p.m.
How to do a coffee enema
- Enema vessel: You can purchase bags, pots, bottles, etc for enemas. The simplest way is using a Fleet Enema bottle, empty out it’s contents first! You can usually purchase these at a local grocery story.
- Prepare the coffee: Brew regular organic coffee and allow it to cool to a comfortable temperature. (If you are sensitive to coffee, you can also use organic green tea).
- Fill the bottle: Pour the cooled coffee (or tea) into the enema bottle and recap. (If using a bag or pot, it should be suspended less than 3 feet above the hips.)
- Insert the tube: Lubricate the tip of a colon tube (the fleet enemas are pre-lubricated) and gently insert it into the rectum. Coconut oil or vasaline is a good option if more lubrication is needed.
- Infuse the solution: Slowly squeeze/release the coffee into the colon, then remove the tube once all or most of the coffee has been infused.
- Hold: Hold it for 10-minutes if possible. It may be helpful to walk around while others prefer to lie down on their right side.
- Release: After 10-minutes, allow your bowels to release in the toilet.
- Hydrate: Drink water or electrolytes afterward to stay hydrated.
